On 10–11 March, Antonio Muñoz from CIRCE, our project coordinator, participated in the round table “Supercharging the Automotive Sector” at the eMobility Expo World Congress (MOW 2026) in Málaga. In this event, Antonio led a presentation about the current and emerging fast-charging solutions for the automotive sector, while he also showcased the new ODYSSEV projects that CIRCE coordinates, through sharing relevant promotional material.

The eMobility Expo World Congress (MOW) is an international event focused on accelerating the transition to more sustainable and efficient mobility systems. It brings together public administrations, private companies, industry leaders, innovators, and policymakers to address key mobility challenges and support the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The congress serves as a platform to share knowledge and showcase innovations across the mobility ecosystem, including sustainable vehicles, micromobility, logistics, smart urban mobility systems, and clean energy technologies, highlighting the importance of cross-sector collaboration for the future of sustainable transport. Find more information about the congress here.

Antonio’s presentation addressed current and emerging fast-charging solutions for the automotive sector. Key topics included charger architectures (compact and distributed), solutions with and without battery integration, evolving communication protocols and connection standards, and the increasing role of smart services such as incident detection and demand prediction. The discussion also highlighted the importance of V2G-capable chargers and the need to adapt charging systems to future grid-service applications.

The debate brought together both industrial and research perspectives within the broader MOW context. Alejandro Valdovinos and Nico Lecea shared insights on current industry challenges, while Caterina Tormo Domènech and Antonio Muñoz contributed from the perspective of technological centres focused on innovation. A key takeaway was the shared view that future charging infrastructure must combine flexibility, interoperability, and service-oriented capabilities such as V2G. Moderated excellently by Jose-Manuel Rodriguez-Fortun, the session fostered a dynamic exchange on both opportunities and remaining barriers in the sector.

During the session, Antonio shared 50 leaflets that showcase the overview, key technologies and key targets that ODYSSEV aims, informing the attendants of the new ODYSSEV project and its aspirations!
